Does it make a difference in Search Engines if you host a website with a local web hosting provider?

This is part of a debate I'm having. I don't think it makes and difference if I host a site locally or with a company 3000 miles away, but thought I'd check with the masses. Any thoughts?
Does it make a difference in Search Engines if you host a website with a local web hosting provider?
Absolutely NO difference.

You can even host it at home IF your connection was fast enough to handle the traffic.

The only thing to look for in a hosting site is how fast a connection they have, and how much bandwidth per Month do they give you. What is there Up time. And of course Price and how reliable are they.
Does it make a difference in Search Engines if you host a website with a local web hosting provider?
It wouldn't make a difference because the world wide web (the Internet) is virtually everywhere at the same time. Location does not matter.

But it all depends on which search engines you submit your site to. If you submit it to US search engines than your site will mostly be listed in US engines. If you want world wide than take the time to submit to all major search engines in alll the countries they offer their services.

I would start with Google, Yahoo, and MSN.
Reply:I do not think it makes too much difference unless you are talking about country specific searches, for example yahoo.uk, even then the domain extension is more likely to alter the results as opposed to the hosts actual location.
Reply:Google et al keep their ranking algorithms pretty close to their chests so its hard to say for sure but I would guess that in certain situations it may have an impact.

Geo targetting (mapping an IP address to a location) is used widely in web advertising and I imagine that Google and the likes may also use this technique in ranking location based searches, such as "Chicago restaurant".
Reply:I think the only things that search engines are slow to index are the free sites. Technically, the spiders that they use to gather info may not get everywhere as quickly, but its probably not worth worrying about.

There are ways to make the search engine see your site more quickly or have it come up with greater preference when people search on the topic of your site, and it involves throwing the key terms on your site, sometimes hundreds of times even if its not visible on the web page itself. Visit Google, yahoo and the other main search engines to see how to make your site more visible.
Reply:Nope.

I want to move my web page from 1&1 to Yahoo web hosting.?

Will the pages I made on 1%26amp;1 go with my domain name when I change servers-- or do I have to make new pages on Yahoo?
I want to move my web page from 1%26amp;1 to Yahoo web hosting.?
Hello J M. I'm the founder and CEO of a web hosting company myself, eVentureBiz (http://www.eventurebiz.com).

The short answer to your question is no, you will have to copy your website's files to your computer and then upload them to your new Yahoo hosting account. You can, however, leave your domain name hosted with 1%26amp;1 and simply point what's called its dns to your Yahoo web hosting account.

To answer your question in more detail, there are two parts to a website, the domain name and the actual hosted files. The domain name can be hosted with any web host that hosts domain names. For example, I am a real estate investor. Before I owned a web hosting company, I actually used Yahoo Web Hosting for my website. After starting my company, I moved my investing site's web hosting for the files (http://www.vegashouseflippers.com) to my company's web hosting but left my domain name - vegashouseflippers.com hosted with Yahoo.

So, the .html files and pictures are stored with eVentureBiz Web Hosting and the domain name is still with Yahoo. The domain name just points to my hosted files (called dns).

You could, of course, move both to Yahoo for just a little more cost.

Of course, since I do own a web hosting company I would like to extend our hosting services to you. Being that I use to host my site with Yahoo, I'm very familiar with their services. I made sure our services were better when I formed our company. We offer more free software, more disk space, quicker email tech support, and more bandwidth for the money. I also personally maintain a blog and community forum on our site where I help others. For example, you could post in our forum if you need some help with design or marketing (use tech support email for hosting tech questions, much quicker) and if I can't figure it out, I'd try to find someone who could.

Again our site is http://www.eventurebiz.com

You can test out our control panel by clicking here:

I also have written some tutorials on our site. One of them is about transfering your web hosting to our company. If you decide to use Yahoo, you still might find this tutorial helpful.

Thanks for your time and I hope this helps. If you have further questions, feel free to use my blog's form (John's Blog) to contact me and I'll help you in any way I can, even if you still decide to go with Yahoo. I'm here to help people however I can. That's part of how our company is different. We're a social web hosting company.

Besides the 1G mailbox with your domain name, you

What is the best machine for web hosting?

I would also like to know about the types of hardware such as which processors and RAM suit the role. If anyone can tell me any information about this or provide any links I would be grateful, thanks in advance.
What is the best machine for web hosting?
The best machine for running a web server is either Linux or OpenBSD running Apache web server with a MySQL database and PHP scripting language to access MySQL (Often called a LAMP server).

Currently 75% of all (true) web servers run Apache on Linux or BSD.

As for what type of hardware you need, like Andrew said, that would depend on how busy you think the server will be. As with all things computer, the better the machine the better the application will run. I would suggest at least a Pentium 4 grade machine with 80 Gig hard drive, and 1 gig of RAM...
What is the best machine for web hosting?
best cpus - AMD

best ram - corsair

motherboards - asus or msi
Reply:Simple answer, depends.

How many concurrent connections do believe you'll have?

What are the minimal recommendations that your web server software provider suggests? (i.e. have a look at the apache documentation if you are using apache).

What other software are you going to need to run on the same server?

Is the application that you are serving high load?

etc.

Lots of questions that need to be answered before a recommendation I'm afraid.

You should also consider something like Xen or VMWare which allows you to run multiple OS sessions at the same time and can be swapped between machines very easily.

Hope this gives some pointers.

Anyone of any age can make a web page. Since this is yahoo, try Yahoo Geocities or Google Page Creator. Just take some time to read some of their tutorials. They are both decent web page creators. Geocities is better because it has been around longer. Google Page Creator is still in beta.

Owning a website like yourname.com takes some experience and knowledge. And you have to be able to enter into a contract to own a domain. And you need to comprehend HTML and Javascript. The ability to make graphics on your own.

First TRY www.GEOCITIES.com/

1)Free

2)Easy to use

3)online tools like page builder

4)counter

5)guestbook

6)You can upgrade at anytime to your own domain

7)web address like geocities.com/YOURYAHOOID

Take a look at Media Temple's grid server. Not the cheapest but worth the cost to use the network they have setup, you can also host multiple domains.

You can also keep an eye out for Dreamhost which occasionally has ridiculous sales. Although I do not care for their control panel very much.
What is your preferred low cost web hosting site?
I like hostned. Been with them for 6 years and they are simply the best. http://www.hostned.com
Reply:bluehost is the company that I prefer. Great hosting features/packages but even better customer support.

I've used them for about a year now and have had zero issues with the company or the hosting. Check out the link below to get to their site.
