Which is best, paid for or free web hosting?

paid for - its pretty cheap (close to free, like 5 a month)

For free hosting, try google pages (pages.google.com) or yahoo geocities,

It's sort of free hosting, but you are limited to a subdomain on googlepages %26amp; geo has ads on your website - otherwise I would use http://www.interkeys.com/tophosts to get one for a few bucks a month with 750 GIGs of bandwidth and rich with features.. you will be much better off. Hosting is cheap nowadays.

That all depends on what you want for your website. If you don't mind popups, low security, downtime, very little or no support, then free is ok. Free hosting is good if you just want to make a personal home page or someplace to practice your web designing skills.

However, with paid hosting you get no popup ads, scripts are included with alot of paid hosts such as shopping carts, you also get tech support when needed, higher level of security.

If you are planning on making a professional website then a paid host is the best way to go.

In the recent past I used free web hosting and it had two issues which I managed to live with.

Advertising

Adds appeared along the bottom of the web page and this can be inappropriate and distracting for your intended audience.

The site could only be updated through a dial-up connection. The web hosting company makes money on the call.

So if you intend to setup a professional site for a particular audience, I would pay as recent rates today are very reasonable. Before signing up, do your research and read all the small print.
Reply:well the best i think is freewebs, but if you want 4 pages but a password for each page then zoomshare.

Reply:Godaddy's dedicated plans start from $89.00/month. You can build your dedicated server, with lots of options for hard disk, RAM, processor, control panel, os, backup, firewall etc.

For something around 100$-150$, you can get a good dedicated server based on your needs. Considering godaddy professionalism and support, that is a real deal!
